About the Lodge

Not just a man. A Mason.

Now more than ever, the world needs men of honor and integrity. Men that unite and not those who divide. That seek truth and share Brotherly Love with all, no matter their race, religion, gender, or creed.

When you become a Mason, you join a lodge — the local chapter of the larger organization, the Grand Lodge. The name goes back hundreds of years, to when all Masons were taught, "A Lodge is a place where members assemble and work." That idea still holds true today.

The world needs more than just men. The world needs Masons.

The Moonlight Journey

Western Sun №91 is one of only twelve remaining Moonlight Lodges in Ohio — lodges that still gather by the light of the full moon. The Masonic Moonlight Journey is your invitation to travel the state and visit every one, collecting the seal of each lodge along the way.

Meeting by the Light of the Full Moon

Before paved roads and automobiles, travel at night was treacherous. Rural Ohio Masons who gathered after dark needed the full moon to light their way home along dirt roads that stretched for miles through brush and open fields.

These Moonlight Lodges scheduled their stated meetings on or near the full moon each month. At the turn of the 20th century, over 3,000 Moon Lodges existed across America. Ohio proudly preserves twelve of the roughly 129 that remain today.
